Few Features that might help Windows 8

One more Tech. News as well New post regarding Windows8.We've been excited for Windows 8 since a long time and with time rolling over, we discover a few positives or negatives in the OS. Although almost all the tech nerds are watching over the october month when Microsoft is likely to release the final Windows 8 but there may have a few faults that people have found in the current Windows 8 Consumer preview and unless Microsoft doesn't adress them, it can really go down just like Vista.

As a Windows user and enthusiast, I like to discover new stuff just like any other tech lover would do and so far I had been impressed with Windows 8 until i read an article over pcworld which pointed out a few concerns that can affect Windows 8 popularity and usage.

The current version of Windows 8 is a limited consumer preview which has just basic features and provides an outline of how Windows 8 would feel like. And just like we've pointed out previously, there have been a few leaks in the Windows 8 which can affect your PC experience. Let's know about a few more..

Desktop Preference:
I'd say this has been the most irritating or disturbing issue among the users. We like the Tile interface and we admire its uniqueness but unless we find a traditional desktop interface on startup, it just doesn't feel like Windows. You can select the desktop interface after you've been logged in but the default stays the same and you can't do anything about it. I think Windows should think on giving us a default desktop preference where we can choose a default style after startup.

This will not only help the techy users but also the traditional Windows users who don't prefer to mess with the looks. Also, as majority of applications open into desktop mode, it is literally inevitable.
Tiles:

Just like I said above, we love Windows' Tile look & feel but is it really effective on desktops & laptops without touch? I think it has been a nice move to combine the computing and tablets all together in a single experience with Windows 8 Tile interface but we should also consider the fact that most of the Windows users are still on mice & keyboards and not touch-screens. The effectiveness and feel of Windows Tiles can only be best felt in a Touch-sensitive screen rather than a mice and many of you might have felt it.

Another problem with Tiles is that they can't be clubed or grouped into a single common Tile or something. This creates a clumsy appereance when you install a package installation that installs a number of programs like Expression Web or Microsoft office 10. Windows create each separate Tile for each application instead of grouping it under a common name which we used to see in Windows 7 start menu.
Start Button:

And Last but not the least, the well known Windows Start Button is a must. In Windows 8, you have to hover over the bottom left corner to get a metro start menu which slides over but it kind of seems like a lot of 'new'. Start menu has always had its functionality and benifit in our day to day computing but with the inclusion of the new metro start menu, it'll take some time for even the experienced users. Start menu has been the identification of Windows and people has been used to using the start menu features the most; removing it will harm and reduce interest of people who avoid to make discovering features and rather use them instantly. Windows should seriously consider bringing it back and keep it intact just like Mac with its Finder.

Windows 8 can be many things which we can't predict right now but we obviously can't hope Windows configuring the above listed features otherwise it would make a complete awesome OS.

Rumor: Nokia Windows 8 tablet coming in Q4 2012 [10 inch, dual core Qualcomm]

A good news for all the members is that Nokia Windows 8 tablet with dual core Qualcomm and size 10"inch is coming in Q4 2012.Nokia’s CEO Stephen Elop has stated before that they’ll be working on a tablet only if they had something majorly different from the usual offerings right now, and they just might have that, thanks to good ol’ Microsoft.

Apparently, according to DigiTimes, supplier sources have said that Nokia will enter the Windows scene with an ARM 10 inch Windows 8 tablet powered by a dual core Qualcomm System-on-chip sometime towards the end of the year. The ‘earliest’ might be Q4 2012, so it’s very possible that it might only be released early next year. Taiwanese company ODM Compal Electronics might be manufacturing it for Nokia, with 200,000 units produced in the first run.

Microsoft frequently releases Security and other essential updates for windows. These updates fix newly discovered bugs and flaws and increases efficeny and protection of Windows. If you don’t have internet connection or have slow internet then you can’t get the updates directly from microsft instead you have to use a third party utlity called Autopatcher.
AutoPacher allows you to download for your windows Operating system and saves it for offline installation. This gives you the liberty to update any computer without internet connection.

How to create new hard disk partition on Windows 8?

Disk partition is getting extremely important when hard disk sizes are increasing. Now days, 1TB hard disk are common and partitioning hard disk into different parts of logical storage saves us from cluttering data and messing up files. When you need to install a new operating system on your computer and you need not mess it up with current windows drive then you should create a new partition and install the new OS without overwriting Windows files. This keeps both operating system safe and separated.
What are the benefits of partitioning your hard discs:
  • Partitioning hard disk helps to manage your files and data better. Like you can have a media drive where you store all your music and videos. You can create a personal drive too, that will content all your personal stuff. You can also hide them.
  • When you need to multi-boot(install multiple operating system on same computer hard disc) your system, it is better to partition hard disc, and install it on a empty Hard disk partition.
  • With hard disc partitioning it is easier to backup file system and extends functionality of your hard disc. This also keeps you safe from any OS crashes because your data will be safe in another hard disc partition.
How to create a disc partition on Windows 8:
  • Hit Window key on keyboard+R to open the Run utility to open the device management. Type “diskmgmt.msc and hit Enter button.
Now, Device management console will open and you will see your Hard disc partitions. You will need unallocated hard disc partition to create a new partition. If you do not have anyunallocated space, you can create it by shrinking the Windows partition. For this right-click the Windows partition (or any other partition you want to shrink) and select the option “Shrink Volume”.

  • Shrinking a storage Volume with Disk Management utility is very easy, once you select to shrink volume, you will get a box that will tell the max space available for shrinking(max space for allocation) choose your requirement and click “Shrink” button.
  • Once your main partition is shrunk you will get a unallocated disc space that is not usable until your create a partition out of it. Now, just right-click the unallocated space andselect “New Simple Volume option”
  • This will launch a New simple Volume Wizard that will guide you through the process of choosing drive letter (choose the one not in use), selecting the file system, Label the Volume and lastly complete creating the Volume. You are done, just go to “My Computer” and you will see the new drive which is usable.

Windows 8: How it Will Work With Cloud Computing

Windows 8 is the next sensible step towards cloud computing while giving users options on how they want to do that. Windows 8 is taking a more responsible approach than compared with Google Chrome, for example.
We have all heard about cloud computing for some time. There has been little to show us it has been coming for some time. Except until very recently. Google has just released the Chromebook, which runs on Google Chrome, which more than an operating system, it is a browser. Windows 8 works a little differently, and may be a more appropriate use for many of us. Most of us are probably not ready for a full switch to cloud computing without additional options, such as keeping our own items on our own computer. Windows 8 is a move towards cloud computing without compromising what we know. Here is a look at how it will work in terms of cloud computing.
Windows 8 Logo Windows 8: How it Will Work With Cloud Computing
  • Azure. The Windows Azure Platform is the computing platform used by Microsoft to offer cloud computing products. These products are and will be offered separately to the Windows 8 download. You can think of the Azure Platform as the huge computer that handles a software program for you, and when you are using it, you are using it through the network. A perfect example of this is Office 365, the replacement for Microsoft Office. You will not have the program on your computer, you will use it like the program on your computer, but it is stored on the Azure network.
  • System Integration.Windows 8 will allow you to use application on the internet, cloud computing applications, with the full power of your operating system and computer. Currently, when you are using an application on the internet, Facebook is an excellent example of one of them, you are only able to use the power of your browser and the power that can be given to that application by your operating system. The whole power of your computer will be available for online applications, and therefore, there will be considerable speed changes.
  • Cluster Support. It is important to understand that when you get services from cloud based products provided by Microsoft, it is not like you will be getting them from one single source. There are many technologies around the delivery of information and services, which deliver from multiple sources at a single time. This means if one of those sources crashes, you will not lose your data, and the service will not be terminated.
  • Windows Live.Windows Live services are expected to grow dramatically, offer a variety of products, and increase to include large storage with monthly payment plans. Similar products are already available for business at very low cost when compared with competitors for a long time.
  • Device storage.Even though there will be a large amount of cloud services available after the release of Windows 8, the best thing about the change is that we will still retain our on-device storage. Not everyone is ready to store everything online – as is the case with owning a Chromebook. A staged transfer of the way we use computers is what most people will want. We still want the choice. While Windows 8 will function very well with cloud computing, is a system that integrates the language of cloud, it still gives us the option of storing on our own devices.
Windows 8 will be an exciting and hassle free step forward in the right direction for computer users who have put up with having to learn how to use different devices because they all operated differently, and who live in a world where they fear getting online because of security issues.
